PSA: https://www.eventticketscenter.com/ is a scam. A 20 year old, very successful scam.
Yesterday, I paid 282% of the ticket cost by following a paid google ad.
Last night, I was buying tickets for one of my favorite events, Pub Choir. For anyone who hasn’t been and loves singing, a must see. I googled the Seattle show and clicked on one of the first paid links (my first mistake).
https://www.eventticketscenter.com/ looks like an official ticket site, later, I saw that they claim to be a “Resale marketplace, prices may be above face value.” When I way buying the tickets, I saw, but ignored (my second mistake) that they were charging $10 “delivery fee” and $14 per person “service charge”. This was a massive red flag and I feel super dumb, but I was really excited to go to PubChoir.
2 minutes after the purchase, I exited the fever dream and checked the official website, the tickets were half what I had just spent and there were plenty of tickets still available from the main site (with no service fees).
I immediately (that second) emailed Event Tickets Center to cancel the purchase. They had said that the purchase would take 3 days, so I figured there was a chance they would honor a cancellation literally 2 minutes after a purchase.
Of course not, because they are a scam. They don’t operate under societal norms, only dark patterns. When I finally got on to their service representative they informed me that all purchases were final because they were actually reselling tickets of brokers, but they would not tell me the name of the broker. What they did was refund half the “service charge” and suggest that I try to re-sell the tickets through their site. read: pay the scam forward.
TBH, their service representative sounded tired. I asked her if she got calls like this often, she said yes. I think she might have the worst job in America. I can only imagine what it was like when they were scamming people for TSWIFT tickets.
Anyway, Washington State, can you please get this passed.
